Sea poetry and song contest winners honoured

Nhan Dan - Winners of the poetry and song competition entitled ‘Vietnam’s Sea in my Heart’ were announced at a ceremony on February 19 at the Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi.
The event, co-organised by VietNamNet newspaper, the Vietnam Writers’ Association and the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, was attended by Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, poet Huu Thinh; representatives from the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Commission for Communication and Education; and the General Department for Vietnam’s Sea and Islands under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; along with musicians, poets and other artists. Speaking at the ceremony, poet Huu Thinh spoke highly of this meaningful event, adding that love for the country has been demonstrated through this competition by poets and musicians with great enthusiasm and responsibility. He also said the contest aimed to educate people about the tradition, love and sovereignty of the country’s sea and islands. In the four months after it was launched, the contest organisers received more than 1,000 poems and over 400 songs from contestants across the country. Two special prizes were awarded to musicians Nguyen Thuy Kha for the choral work entitled ‘Ky Niem Truong Sa’ (Memory of Truong Sa) and Nguyen Ton Nghiem with the choral work ‘Bien Dao Anh Hung, To Quoc Quang Vinh’ (Heroic Sea and Islands, Glorious Nation). There was no first prize in the music category but the second prize went to ‘Dao Chim’ (Submerged Island) by Le May while ‘Tinh Yeu Linh Dao’ (Love of Naval Soldiers) by Doan Lan Huong and ‘Tuoi Tre Tren Bien Dao Que Huong’ (Youth on the Country’s Islands) by Xuan Nhat both won third prizes. Nguyen Minh Tan ‘Giac received a prize for the most promising artist with Mo Mua Xuan’ (A Spring Dream) and ‘Truong Sa, Noi Binh Minh To Quoc’ (Truong Sa, the Country’s Dawn) by Nguyen Khanh Trinh secured the prize for outstanding artistic effects. A poem entitled ‘Nguoi Sau Chan Song’ (People behind the Wave) by Le Thi May won first prize in the poetry category and second prizes went to ‘To Quoc Ben Bo Bien Ca’ (The Country by the Sea) by Nguyen Viet Chien, ‘To Quoc Ba Nghin Cay So Bien’ (The Country with Over 3000 Kilometres of Coastline) by Nguyen Ngoc Phu, and ‘Mo Gio’ (Empty Tomb) by Trinh Cong Loc. Third prizes were presented to Ngo Minh and Phan Hoang.
