Nhan Dan - The Dung Quat bioethanol plant in the central province of Quang Ngai has succeeded in producing the first batch of bioethanol with 99.7% alcohol by volume since the plant’s test run was carried out on January 16.
During the trial run, the plant operated at 80% of its standard capacity. The plant is designed with the purpose of producing an annual output of 100 million litres of E5, a common ethanol fuel mixture. In addition to biofuels, the plant will also produce carbon dioxide, animal feed, and fertilisers. Since the beginning of 2012, engineers and laborers at the plant have been working around the clock to ensure that the plant can produce the first batch of bioethanol as scheduled. The Dung Quat bioethanol plant was constructed at the Dung Quat Economic Zone in 2004 with a total investment of VND2,060 billion (US$98.88 million) and is scheduled to come into full operation in May.
