US 7th Fleet Commander visits Vietnam
Updated: 3:12PM (GMT+7), Tue, January 10, 2012
Commander of the US 7th Fleet Vice Admiral Scott H. Swift has embarked on a working visit to Vietnam.

He was received by Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, in Hanoi on January 9, who congratulated the Vice Admiral on his appointment as Commander of the US 7th Fleet.

Defence ties between Vietnam and the US have been promoted in such areas as delegation exchange, training, military medicine, search and rescue and overcoming the aftermath of the war in Vietnam, Deputy Chief Tuan said.

He said he believes that the visit to Vietnam will make practical contributions to boosting co-operation for mutual benefit between the two countries in fields, including defence.

Vice Admiral Scott H. Swift said that Vietnam and the US have seen progress in co-operation, especially since the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence co-operation at the deputy minister level.

He said he will do his utmost to contribute to developing co-operation between the two countries.
