Nhan Dan – Farmers in the northern province of Phu Tho has planted 1,000 more hectares of tea in 2007, bringing the total area under tea in the locality to nearly 14,000 hectares with a total production of over 80,000 tonnes of tea.

In addition to available varieties, local farmers have been urged to plant, on a trial basis, some high quality varieties.

They have also been provided with technical training and measures to control diseases as well as to produce safe tea. Thus, the area under tea has been expanding while the productivity, quality and total output has been increasing.
