A Vietnam-Myanmar international
trade fair aiming to promoting bilateral trade between the
two countries, opened in the Myanmar Convention Centre in
Yangon on November 19.
At the four-day trade fair, 52
Vietnamese businesses are showcasing their products, ranging
from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics, food and foodstuffs,
garments and footwear, electronics, stationery, household
utensils, construction materials, fertilisers, rubber and
furniture.
Meanwhile, 10 companies from the
host country are exhibiting fisheries products, consumer
goods, traditional handicrafts and pictures made from gems.
Vietnam is currently Myanmar’s
16th largest importer, mainly buying agro-forestry products,
seafood and electronic components, while Myanmar imports
steel products, electronic equipment, pharmaceuticals,
industrial products, chemicals, computers and accessories,
plastics, cosmetics and machine oil from Vietnam.
Official statistics show that
two-way trade between Vietnam and Myanmar reached US$60
million in the first nine months of this year. In 2008, the
value of bilateral trade was put at US$108.2 million, a
year-on-year increase of 11.27%. (VNA) |
