Ancient bronze drum unearthed in northern province

The provincial museum of northern Ha Tay province has received an ancient bronze drum, which is believed to belong to the Dong Son Culture from 2,000 years ago.

The drum, measuring 67 cm in diameter, was discovered by construction workers while building an office for the People's Committee of Phu Cat commune in Quoc Oai district.

Its surface is decorated with a six-ray sun in the middle and six strips of diamond-shaped pattern. The drum's body has three patterned traceries and two pairs of U-shaped handles, while its base is also decorated with three patterned bands.

The finding proves that Phu Cat was once home to ancient Vietnamese people with a rich cultural life. (VNA)
