A collection of ancient
bracelets.
An exhibition of women’s jewelry
from ancient times opens today at the Southern Women’s Museum
in Ho Chi Minh City. More than 500 exhibits from the days of
the Phung Nguyen, Dong Son, Sa Huynh and Oc Eo cultures
include valuable pieces from private collections and antique
clubs.
Among them are skillfully wrought
bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings and brooches made of
gold, silver, bronze or glass, many of which are encrusted
with gemstones.
Different from the Kinh people,
tribal women in the highlands preferred colorful necklaces and
spiral jewelry made of ivory, Cham women had a penchant for
agate and gold strings, and Khmer women were influenced by
Indian culture.
