Gifted French jazz singer to perform in Hanoi

Nhan Dan Online- Jazz lovers will have a chance to enjoy the rhythm of gentle jazz swing by gifted French singer Nadia Cambours in Hanoi from August 22. 

This jazz diva will create an elegant and luxurious ambience in Le Club Bar of the Hanoi Sofitel Metropole every Tuesday to Sunday from 22 August to 22 October. She will present a legendary repertoire of classic jazz paying homage to the 1920s and1930s on the background music of piano and doublebass by Vietnamese artists. 

This is the second time Nadia Cambours in Vietnam. She has been welcomed by audiences at Hanoi Metropole Hotel in performances for three months, from last October. During last time in Hanoi, when being asked “What’s jazz”, Nadia said “there are 3,000 words on jazz in my mind, but if I have to choose one word only, I’ll say “Jazz is free”. 

Influenced by Billie Holiday and Anita Day, Nadia has been developing her native swing music style for almost 30 years and first started when she was 8 years old. Amongst her many talents, Nadia is not only a singer but also a dancer, model and theatre and movie actress. She had performed in many prestigious bars and clubs in Paris before joining the Hennessy X.O Jazz Tour with the “Olivier Smith Jazz Band” touring Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Taiwan, Marrakech and Casablanca.  

In 2002, she recorded a number of Swing standards with “Honeysuckle Rose”. In December 2006, she took part in the “Saint-Louis Big band” to present a classical jazz repertoire reflecting the 1920s and 30s period with its many famous singers like Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Fletcher Henderson. Nadia also participated in Spain’s famous Bilbao jazz festival, accompanied by the Tuxedo Big Band, on August 16.  

The event is being organised by Sofitel Metropole Hanoi, in association with Air France – KLM.
