Korean film festival coming to Vietnam

Hello, Goodbye Little Brother will make debut to Vietnamese audience during Korean Film Festival  in Vietnam

Nhan Dan Online- The Korean Film Festival in Vietnam will open on May 31 and last for four days at the National Convention Hall on the occasion of 15th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.

Six feature films will be on screen during the festival. They include 200 Pound Beauty; Radio Star; Hello, Goodbye Little Brother; I’m a Cybord but That’s Ok; The Host; and the King and the Clown. According to the RoK Embassy in Vietnam, these films have received acclaim from audiences at home and abroad and have also seriously selected for the screening in the festival.

The two films The Host and The King and The Clown in the festival have attracted 10 million people, making a record in the box office in Korea. They are also considered ones of the best Korean films.

Not only being attractive by a new theme, the fictitous The Host bears a profound significance on the close relations between members in the family, particularly between father and children.

Directed by Park Chan-Wook, one of the talented directors of Korea, the film I’m a Cybord but That’s Ok was honoured a special prize at the Berlin Film Festival.

Particularly, 500 tickets of Hello, Goodbye Little Brother will be freely provided to the Vietnamese orphanages. The film is a moving story on brotherliness of the 9 year old boy Han Yi with his elder brother who suffers leukocyte. The organisers said they will also have a small party for those disadvantaged children before the film screening.

The festival, jointly organised by the Seoul newspaper, the Embassy of Republic of Korea in Vietnam, The Korean Culture Centre in Vietnam, and the Vietnam Ministry of Culture and Information, will have the performance of renowned singers, artists and film directors of Vietnam and Korea.

The film festival’s opening ceremony will have the attendance of director Park Chan-wook, the owner of the two films Old Boy and Friendly Kưmja which won jury’s prize of the Cannes Film Festival 2004 and actress Kim A Jung, who are elected one of the most beautiful actresses in Korea.

Before the opening ceremony (at 8.30pm), there will be a music programme to celebrate the film festival (at 7pm) with the performance of Korean Lee Jung Hyun, No Brain Rock Band, Han-ul So-ri percussion band and Vietnamese pop diva Thanh Lam, singer Ngo Thanh Van and Big Toe Dance Group.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea also revealed that 1,000 tickets for each film will be provided free-of-charge for readers of the web www.hanquocngaynay.com during two days, 22 and 23-5.
