Europe Days in Vietnam show EU’s unity in diversity

Nhan Dan Online- Europe Days in Vietnam 2007 with various cultural activities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from April 25 to May 31 will show the unity in diversity of the EU, said Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Vietnam Markus Cornaro during a press conference in Hanoi in April 23.

According to Ambassador Markus, the Europe Days in Vietnam will open with an exhibition of EU herd of cows which is jointly co-organised by the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Delegation of the European Commission to Vietnam. This is a very special exhibition with 28 colourful cow sculptures representing the 27 member states of the EU and the EC. These life-size polyester cows will be displayed at Thong Nhat (Reunification) Park in Hanoi from April 25 to May 9. Earlier, the EU herd of cows was exhibited and welcomed in Prague (Czech Republic), the Hague (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Hong Kong (China).

The next events during the programme are the open air night with Hip-Hop Dance and DJ music and the contemporary dance ‘One Day’ by choreographer Tran Ly Ly. These two events, also included in the on-going German Weeks of Culture in Vietnam, promises impressive performances particularly for young audiences. The two famous break dancers of Germany and France, Storm and Sebastien will perform together with 10 young dancers of the Vietnamese ensemble Big Toe. Meanwhile the ‘One Day’ feature-length choreography will once again be introduced to audience after its first successful performance last year.

Spanish Music and Dance, organised by the Embassy of Spain will be introduced at the Hanoi Opera House on May 11. The music and dance recital entitled Iberia by Isaac Alberniz will be performed by the Spanish pianist Rosa Torres-Pargo and dancer Lola Greco.

Especially, the first ever European Children’s Film Festival in Vietnam will introduce the best 12 European animated and feature films to Vietnamese young audiences. The activity aims to entertain, educates and inspires children of all ages.

One of the events attracting public attention, European Football Cup will be simultaneously organised in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on May 12. Hosted by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), the European Football Cup will bring together representatives from various nations to show their skills, sportsmanship and team spirit in the world’s favourite game.

Besides, an EU anniversary essay contest, a seminar on EU-Vietnam trade relations and a roundtable-European and Vietnamese experiences in cultural expression will be good chances for those who want to know more about EU as well as its relations with Vietnam.

This is the fourth consecutive year EU organises such a programme to celebrate the Europe Day which falls on May 9.
