Police bring to light over 4,000 drug trafficking and abuse cases

Nhan Dan - Police in the northwestern region uncovered over 4,000 drug trafficking and abuse cases with more than 7,000 people involved between June 2007 and April 2008.

It was announced at a meeting to review one year of collaboration in drug control and prevention of drugs in the northwestern region and four other cities, which was held in Dien Bien city, Dien Bien province on June 30. 

The meeting was reported that over 108 kilogrammes of heroin, around 28 kilogrammes of opium and 71,297 methamphetamine tablets.

Statistics in 2007 show that there were 45,720 drug addicts in 11 northwestern provinces, or an increase of 1,015 people over 2006. The figure was equal to 25.64% of total number of drug addicts of the whole country.

The number of drug addicts in the four cities was put at 31,684 people.

The collaboration in the control and prevention of drugs has witnessed good results with the whole political systems in the region called into action against drug-related crimes, thus helping maintain social stability.
