Buddhists expected to actively contribute to national development

Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Ha Van Nui expressed his hope that Buddhist dignitaries would further encourage monks, nuns and believers to join hands in socio-economic development and great national unity.

The VFFCC leader made the request while visiting Buddhist dignitaries at the Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi on November 6 on the occasion of the 28th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).

Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council, thanked the Party, State, and the VFF and organisations for their support for the VBS over the past time.

The VBS, together with all monks, nuns and followers, will continue effectively implementing programmes and activities set by its Central Committee, contributing to national development, he said.

Over the past 10 months, Buddhist monks, nuns and believers nationwide raised nearly VND 400 billion for storm and flood victims, orphans, the disabled and AO victims, he added.

On the occasion, the Party Central Committee’s Commission of Mass Mobilisation, the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and leaders of cities and provinces visited and congratulated the SBV Central Committee. (VNA)
