Hanoi works to stop bird flu spread

The Hanoi Veterinary Sub-Department says it is undertaking a number of measures to prevent the return of avian influenza.

According to its head Tran Manh Giang, the sub-department has been keeping a close watch over poultry in order to control the spread of the virus.

It also maintains a hot line and eight animal transport checking stations to prevent suspected poultry from entering the city.

The sub-department has culled more than 2,000 poultry at a family farm in Hong Ky commune in the suburb of Soc Son, where a number of dead birds exhibited symptoms of avian influenza.

It also started a ten-day sterilisation of the area, beginning on March 6, to stamp out any further outbreaks. (VNA)
