Vietnam is ready to host the
International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2008 in Hanoi from
July 20-29, a government official said on July 7.
Deputy Minister of Education and
Training Banh Tien Long delivered the remarks at a working
session with authorities of northeastern Quang Ninh
province, which will host a conference of the World
Federation of Physics Competitions (WFPhC) during the event.
Boasting Ha Long Bay as a twice-recognised
world heritage site by UNESCO, Quang Ninh will welcome
participating students and delegates from July 25-26.
Long said this is the first time
Vietnam hosts an IPhO, proving the nation’s growing position
and prestige in the international arena.
More than 500 talented students
and another 500 teachers and educators from 85 countries and
territories around the world will take part in this year’s
IPhO, making it the largest event in terms of participating
nations.
The deputy minister revealed,
unlike other IPhOs, Vietnam is responsible for putting
forward theoretical and practical questions.
Participating students will join
local peers at exchange programmes with a number of Physics
Nobel prize winners in the world. (VNA) |
