Embassy attempted bombing ringleader goes on trial in Thailand

A Thai criminal court on April 9 began proceedings against Vo Van Duc, a Vietnamese-born US citizen, for the attempted bombing of the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok on June 19, 2001.

After hearing the indictment, the preliminary hearing requested the police to provide more documents and evidence in order to further pursue the case.

The next hearing is scheduled to take place on April 30.

Duc was allegedly the ringleader of the attempted bombing and was arrested in October 2001 by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was extradited from the United States to Thailand on January 3, 2007. (VNA)
