The Republic of Korea (RoK)'s
government on April 13 pledged a US$900,000 grant to help
Vietnam implement a project to enhance its industrial sector’s
capacity to protect the environment.
Through the Korean International
Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Hanoi, the RoK side will offer
technological consultancy and organise training courses as
well as provide Vietnam with the appropriate equipment. In
addition, joint research programmes on the environment will be
conducted.
Significantly, under the framework
of the project, environmental monitoring- and- controlling
technology will be also transferred to Vietnamese concerned
agencies.
According to the KOICA press
release, the project is the follow-up phase of a project,
which aimed to help enhance Vietnamese key industries’
capacity in protecting the environment.
The first phase project was
sponsored by KOICA, from 2003 to 2005.
Worth US$600,000, the first phase
project helped transfer waste treatment technologies to
Vietnam, especially for those discharged by the dyeing
industry. (VNA) |
