Nhan Dan - A
high risk of bird flu outbreaks has been warned in localities
nationwide, especially those in the Red River and Mekong
deltas.
The Veterinary
Department, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development, gave the warning at a meeting of the National
Steering Board for Avian Influenza Control and Prevention on
February 19.
Severe cold and
drizzles in the northern region are blamed for the high risk.
Bui Quang Anh,
head of the department, said that bird flu had occurred in
Thai Nguyen Quang Ninh and Long An provinces.
In addition,
the department received reports about dead poultry in Hai
Duong, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Ha Tay and Nam Dinh
provinces.
At the meeting,
Bui Ba Bong, deputy minister of agriculture and rural
development, stressed possibility of outbreaks of bird flu in
March. Therefore, it was important to report in a timely
manner about the development of the disease, thus better
serving the control and prevention activities.
The Veterinary
Department continues to send its working groups to localities
to supervise the control and prevention of bird flu, foot and
mouth disease, and blue ear disease in localities.
The department
on the same day sent its Letter N0 191/TY-DT to its affiliates
in provinces and cities, asking promoted measures to control
and prevent bird flu.
Hai Duong, Nam
Dinh and Tuyen Quang were confirmed to have bird flu occurring
on February 19. |
