Decisions to grant amnesty to 172 jail inmates detained in Hanoi's custody for serving their terms well on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year festival were announced on January 23.

Of them, 25 have been released ahead of their jail terms and 147 others have had their terms commuted by between 2 and 6 months.

Released prisoners who have no relatives to meet them and have to travel a long way will be given transport fees. (VNA)
