Ho Chi Minh City presents rice varieties to Lao flood victims
Ho Chi Minh City authorities have donated 200 tonnes of rice seeds to the capital city of Vientiane, Laos, to help it deal with the aftermath of floods that occurred in August this year.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Nguyen Huy Quang, on behalf of the Ho Chi Minh City authorities handed over the gifts to the people of Laos at a ceremony held on October 23.

Vientiane Governor Sinlavong Khoutphaythoun took the occasion to express his thanks to Vietnam, particularly Ho Chi Minh City, for their effective and timely assistance to Vientiane and Laos as a whole.

In addition to the rice varieties, Ho Chi Minh City is planning to send a number of professionals to Laos to assist their colleagues in preventing insect from infestations and in seed preservation and rice care techniques.

The city had previously granted US$100,000 to Vientiane in emergency relief aid to support victims of the floods. (VNA)
