Ten new species of animal including 5 species of snake and 5 types of gecko and lizard have recently discovered in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province, according to a 9-year research project undertaken by German, Russian and Vietnamese scientists working at the Scientific Centre of the National Park.

Some of these new species are unique to Phong Nha – Ke Bang such as Phong Nha – Ke Bang gecko, Cryptus gecko and six-horn snake. The research also discovered three rare types of orchid.

According to a German professor of amphibian reptiles, Phong Nha – Ke Bang still has great potential to reveal further species of amphibian reptile.
