Illegal software uncovered

An inspection team from the Ministries of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Public Security found Hanoi-based Archetype Vietnam Co. Ltd (a French foreign-owned company) using illegal software, worth an estimated VND 6 billion.

This is the biggest software violator found in Vietnam by inspectors from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said inspectors.

At Artchetype Vietnam , a wholly French investment company, inspectors found 82 computers containing illegally installed software, including Autocad, Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Viual Studio, Microsoft Windows XP, Lac Viet, Symantec Antivirus, Vietkey 2000, ACD Systems, WinRar, Adobe, Symantec Antivirus, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office XP, Microsoft Frontpage, Corel Graphic Suite.

John Brown, Director of Archetype Vietnam Co. Ltd. admitted the using of the software and pledged to sort out the problem possible.

Tran Van Minh, who led the inspection team that raided the French company yesterday said after the inspection, a decision, persuent to Property Law and the Government’s Decision No 56, on fining the company would be made.

More inspections are expected to come as the country is serious in addressing the problem of pirated software, he added .(Tin tuc)
