1,000 houses for poor young people

Nhan Dan – The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union on May 30 started a programme of building one thousand houses of ‘Fellowship,’ valued at VND 20 billion for poor young people.

Beneficiaries from the programme include poor youth union cadres, members, students and children of social policy beneficiaries, demobilised officers and men in Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring localities.

Apart from calling for sponsorship from enterprises, youth unions at a grassroots level and their members contributed their labour and construction materials for the programme.

On the launch day, VND 1 billion was contributed.


Bird flu reoccurs in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Kien Giang provinces

Nhan Dan – Bird flu reoccurred in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Kien Giang provinces, announced the Veterinary Department on May 30.

In Nghe An province, bird flu was found in Village 11, Hung Trung commune, Hung Nguyen district, killing 350 of a total 944 unvaccinated ducks on May 26. One day later, all the ducks were culled.

In Ha Tinh, bird flu was discovered in Village 7, Cam Trung commune, Cam Xuyen district on May 24, killing 400 ducks. The infected ducks were culled on May 30.

In Kien Giang province, the disease was found on May 25 in Tam Hiep A commune, Tan Hiep district, killing 50 chickens initially. By May 29, 900 chickens had died of the disease.

So far, five localities, Can Tho, Tra Vinh, Kien Giang, Ha Tinh and Nghe An, have yet to be free from bird flue for 21 days.


Final exams finish in success, says Ministry of Education and Training

Nhan Dan Online – The final exams of senior secondary schools finished in success, said the Ministry of Education and Training on May 30.

Banh Tien Long, permanent deputy minister of education and training and head of the steering board for the exams, said that on three days, May 28, 29 and 30, the exams took place safely.

Preliminary statistics by 4pm, May 30, shows that 1.17 million out of 1.2 million registered examinees took part in the exams. The number of drops-out was 8,715. 

During the three day exams, 833 examinees violated rules for the exams and were suspended. Meanwhile, 15 supervisors violated rules and were suspended.

In preparation for the exams, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a Rule for the Final Examination of Senior Secondary Schools, organising training courses, issued documents to provide guidance for the examination organisation, and the revision for students nationwide.   

Additionally, the Ministry sent letters to chairmen of the People’s Committee of provinces and cities, requesting them to guide agencies to follow the directions by the Prime Minister on fighting evils in education and training, and creating favourable conditions for the exams. 

The Ministry also sent letters to other relevant agencies and ministries, requesting a close co-operation for a successful organisation of the exams.

Mr Long said that the Ministry of Education and Training planned to organise this year’s final exams safely and effectively, creating a premise for a national final examination for senior secondary schools, which would serve as a basis for students’ enrolment to universities, colleges and vocational training schools.
