We have already entered the new year of 2010.
The year 2009 is the year of severe challenges for Vietnam. Adverse affects
of the financial-monetary crisis and the global economic recession not only made
Vietnam’s economy decline, but also revealed and further worsened its defects.
Furthermore, natural disasters and epidemics broke out so violently as they had
never been seen before.
In that context, the achievements recorded by the Vietnamese people are
prideworthy. The economic growth rate reached 5.32%. Price Consumer Index
increased by 6.88%. Social welfares were further paid attention to. As a result,
people’s life, particularly the life of the poor people and the prioritised
policy beneficiaries, was in general guaranteed. The rate of poor households was
down to 12.3%. The political and social system was stable. Vietnam’s foreign
relations activities were expanded together with the successful completion of
its two-year tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council,
further raising Vietnam’s prestige and position ever higher in international
arena....
This luggage is enough for us to enter the year 2010 with resolve – a more
favourable year, but still with severe difficulties. Alongside the impact of the
world’s economy which is slowly recovering but latent with unexpected changes,
the limitations and defects which are yet to be much overcome remain the
obstacles for Vietnam to get the momentum to restore its fast and sustainable
economic growth rate. Yet, Vietnam’s abilities which have been forged for
thousands of years and at the same time have been trained in these recent
challenging years with a lot more experiences accumulated, will certainly take
Vietnam to tide over the state of poverty and its economy will be higher than
that last year and Vietnam will surely advance towards prosperity.
New year, new determination!
