Nhan Dan - The Secretariat of the Party Central Committee has asked the central city of Da Nang to make greater efforts to gain rapid and sustainable development and become an industrial and service-based city before 2020.

The instruction was made during a working session between the Secretariat and Da Nang Municipal Party Committee to review four years of implementing the Politburo's resolution on “Building and developing Da Nang city in the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.”

During the past four years, the city has achieved an annual GDP growth rate of more than 12% while its economic restructuring has shifted to services, industry and agriculture. Progress has been made in urban planning, construction and management, security and national defence.

The local economy’s competitiveness remains low, the service sector is yet to push ahead production while urban planning and construction is yet to keep up the requirements for development. In addition, the quality of its work force remains poor.

The Secretariat expressed the hope that Da Nang's Party Committee and people will promote the present achievements and overcome difficulties to fulfil the Politburo's resolution.

Under the resolution, Da Nang is expected to become a key economic hub of the central region and an exemplary city under the central control.
