Vietnam and Thailand discuss political, security co-operation

The Vietnam-Thailand Political and Security Co-operation Working Group held their third meeting in Bangkok on July 3 to discuss bilateral co-operation from now to 2010.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Viet Trung, who co-chaired the meeting, said he believed Vietnam-Thailand co-operation in the fields would contribute to promoting economic growth, politics, security and tourism in each country, the region and the world as well, especially when Southeast Asia is striving for an ASEAN Community by 2015.

He also said Vietnam would commit itself to making greater efforts to strengthen the two countries’ political and security co-operation in particular and stability in the region and the world as a whole.

Secretary General of the Thai National Security Council Lieutenant General Surapong Puen-aiyaka said the meeting’s agenda is based on the agreement on the field signed in December 2006.

He spoke of challenges to the two countries’ political and security co-operation when the region and the world are dealing with non-traditional crimes, food security and energy issues, human trafficking and natural calamities. (VNA)
