Party Central Committee discusses future economic strategy

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has urged the entire Party to focus on pre-empting an economic recession, controlling inflation and maintaining economic growth while ensuring social welfare.

The Party leader made this point in his closing speech during a meeting of the Party Central Committee in Hanoi on January 13, following more than a week of seating.

He also called for greater efforts to be made to improve the robustness of the national economy in all areas by significantly alleviating poverty, improving people’s material and cultural living conditions and ensuring social progress and equality.

“It is necessary to speed up global integration while maintaining political stability, national defence, public order and social security,” said the Party leader.

He pointed out the need to facilitate research into Party theories and draw upon 20 years of experience in executing the Party’s political programme on the road towards socialism, and formulating the nation’s socio-economic strategy from 2011-2020.

The meeting was the ninth to be held by the Party Central Committee of the 10th Congress, and aimed at strengthening the Party’s role in the national causes of industrialisation and modernisation.

Topping the meeting’s agenda were the fight against corruption and wastefulness and the work that is necessary to speed up the processes of industrialisation and modernisation, international integration and national construction and defence.

The meeting made appointments to fill several important positions in the Party Central Committee and Politburo, including the promotion of To Huy Rua, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party CC Commission of the Information and Education, to the Party Politburo. (VNA)
