Vietnam and Myanmar hold political consultation meeting

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Myanmar held their fifth political consultation meeting in the Myanmar capital city of Nay Pyi Taw from July 20-21.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Viet Trung headed the Vietnamese delegation, while the hosts were led by Deputy Foreign Minister Maung Myint.

The meeting aims to tighten the traditional friendship and reliable co-operation between Vietnam and Myanmar, and the two ministries as well.

The two sides agreed to convene the sixth consultation meeting in Vietnam next year.

During his stay, Deputy Minister Trung met Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Htay OO and Deputy Minister of National Planning and Economic Development Thurein Zaw of Myanmar.

The officials kept each other informed of the current situation in their respective countries, reviewed the co-operation results in all areas, and discussed a wide range of directions and measures to boost bilateral co-operative ties.

They agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels and share experience between ministries, sectors and localities from the two countries.

The two sides affirmed their resolve to expand economic, investment and trade ties, and encourage Vietnamese and Myanmar businesses to co-operate in agro-forestry-fishery, energy, oil and gas, telecommunications, tourism and training.

Hosts and guests also touched upon a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, and pledged to intensify co-ordination and co-operation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Co-operation Strategy (ACMECS) and other international forums.
