Vietnam advocates Laos' joining APEC: President Triet

Lao National Assembly Chairman Thongsing Thammavong and his entourage, currently on an official visit to Vietnam, toured Ho Chi Minh City on November 22.

At a meeting with Chairman Thongsing Thammavong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Le Hoang Quan, highlighted the importance and prospect of co-operation between his city and Laos' Vientiane capital and Champassak province, particularly in economy, investment and education and training.

Mr Quan said that Ho Chi Minh City would continue to give priority on projects and programmes on economic, commercial and investment co-operation between Vietnam and Laos, and is ready to share its experiences in socio-economic development, poverty reduction and personnel training with Lao localities.

The Lao NA Chairman thanked the city for its effective assistance through a series of health care programmes, giving free eye, harelip and cleft palate surgeries to tens of thousands Laotians.

Ho Chi Minh City has helped Vientiane and Champassak province develop their economy through many large development investment projects, he said. (VNA)
