Over 1,000 foreign reporters have
registered to come to Vietnam for the coverage of the
2006-APEC Economic Leaders' Week, scheduled for November
12-19.
Nguyen Thanh Chau, Deputy Head of
the APEC-2006 Secretariat, released the figure at an
information session in Hanoi on October 25.
He added that leaders from member
economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC)
forum will wear Vietnamese traditional costumes on this
occasion.
Five major documents are expected
to be approved in the week, including a Statement by APEC
economic leaders, a declaration by APEC foreign and economic
ministers, a Hanoi action plan for implementing the Busan
roadmap, a report on APEC reforms and a report by the Senior
Official Meeting to ministers.
Leaders from five nations will
take this opportunity to pay official visits to Vietnam. They
are General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and
President Hu Jintao, Chilean President Veronica Michelle
Bachelet Jeria, US President George W. Bush, Japanese Prime
Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The
elect-UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, who comes into office
in 2007, will also attend the 2006- APEC week.
The APEC-2006 Secretariat has
received registration of 565 volunteers to serve in this
biggest ever event in Vietnam.
The information session, part of a
Canadian-funded programme to improve the APEC reporting
quality, was attended by around 70 local reporters from
various news agencies and newspapers across the country. (VNA) |
