Vietnam-Laos co-operation sub-committees meet

The Laos-Vietnam and Vietnam-Laos Sub-Committees for Co-operation opened their 29th Mid-term Conference in Vientiane on July 26.

Opening the conference, Thongmy Phommisay, Deputy President of the Laos-Vietnam Sub-Committee stated that the two sub-committees are working hard to implement agreements between the two governments.

On his part, Truong Van Doan, Deputy President of the Vietnam-Laos Sub-Committee for Co-operation, highlighted co-operation between the two sides in human resources development.

He further informed that two-way trade value in the first four months of the year was US $92.3 million. In the October 2006-March 2007 period, Vietnam invested over US $81 million in 20 projects in Laos.

At the conference, the two sides plan to exchange views on the use of aid capital and propose measures to conduct projects on schedule and promote investment in growing industrial crops, building hydro-power plants and mining. (VNA)
