Vietnam calls for stop of violence in Gaza

A Vietnamese ambassador expressed his deep concern over a series of attacks on Palestinian and Israeli civilians since the truce in Gaza Strip expired.

At a UN Security Council’s urgent meeting on the surge of violence in the Middle East on December 27, Ambassador Bui The Giang, Vietnamese Vice Representative to the UNSC, said they were unacceptable acts under any motives.

The diplomat condemned Israel’s military attack against Gaza on December 27 morning, killing hundreds of Palestinian civilians and seriously destroyed infrastructure facilities there.

The Vietnamese ambassador urged the related parties to immediately stop violence, restore the truce and restrained themselves from any acts and declarations possibly causing further bloodshed to take the peace process back to the right track and create favourable conditions for peace negotiations.

He also called on the related parties to facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to Palestinian people in Gaza.

The diplomat stressed that all related parties had equal responsibilities and obligations in implementing the peace roadmap, the “land for peace” principle, the Annapolis Conference Joint Declaration and related resolutions of the UN Security Council, especially Resolution 1850 under which a comprehensive, fair and sustainable solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict must be based on the principle of non-violence and peaceful settlement of all disputes.

Ambassador Giang welcomed the Palestinian, Jordanian and Egyptian governments’ efforts aiming at bringing an early end to violence.

He reiterated Vietnam’s support of the role of the Quartet, the Arab Federation and other regional countries in arranging a ceasefire and restoring stability in Gaza.. These acts would practically contribute to strengthening the peace process and promoting constructive negotiations, confidence and mutual understanding in the region, the Ambassador said. (VNA)
