Vietnam emphasises ties with neighbouring countries: NA Chairman

Recent visits to China, Laos and Cambodia by the National Assembly’s high-level delegation are evidence of Vietnam’s desire to retain the traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation with its neighbouring countries, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

The NA Chairman discussed with reporters the outcomes of his official friendship visits to Laos and Cambodia between April 23-28. He highlighted the signing of co-operation agreements between the Vietnamese NA and Lao and Cambodian parliaments as the most significant achievements of these visits.

They created a legal foundation for boosting friendly relations between the Vietnamese NA and legislative bodies of Laos and Cambodia as well as strengthening the Vietnam-Laos special ties and the Vietnam-Cambodia comprehensive co-operation, said the NA leader.

He added that through talks and meetings during these visits, the concerned parties agreed to further enhance friendly and co-operative ties for the benefit of each nation.

On measures to implement the agreements signed with the Lao and Cambodia parliaments, the NA Chairman said there would be visits by delegations at both committee and higher level from the start. Detailed plans would be worked out for practical and result-oriented co-operation.

He went on to say that the two sides would exchange experiences in law making, supervision, and decision-making concerning the country’s important issues.

This year, Vietnam and Laos celebrate the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic ties and the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Friendship and Co-operation, while Vietnam and Cambodia celebrate the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

The Chairman said many activities would be organised to celebrate these events with focus on educating the young generations on the relations between Vietnam and Laos, and Vietnam and Cambodia as well as their responsibility to continue fostering those ties. (VNA)
