Plans
for celebrating the 60th anniversary of the August
Revolution and National Day, September 2, were announced in
Hanoi yesterday.
A highlight would be the march of
the masses and a military parade on the historical Ba Dinh
Square, Minister of Culture and Information Pham Quang Nghi
told a press conference.
These would be a manifestation of
the entire nation’s unity and illustrate the great
achievements of the Vietnamese people during the past 60
years, especially in their process of doi moi (renovation)
process, he said.
Leaders of the Party and State
will attend the event. Guests will include representatives of
overseas Vietnamese, diplomats and representatives of
international organisations in Vietnam and foreign press will
be invited to the event.
The ceremony will be held from 7am
to 9am, beginning with a traditional torch light procession to
the Ba Dinh Square from Ho Chi Minh Museum.
A 21-gun salute will be fired and
four helicopters carrying both the national flag and the
Communist Party flag will parade above the square. The army,
police and militia forces will take part in the military
parade.
The armed forces’ military parades
comprise 15 blocs, including the army, police and militia
forces, while the march of the masses include 29 blocs,
featuring the areas relating to politics, diplomacy, civil
administration, economics, science and technology, culture and
society.
Minister Nghi said that about
