Southern localities mark their liberation

Meetings were held in the southern provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Kien Giang to mark the 30th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification.

In Dong Nai, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Tran Dinh Thanh recalled the glorious anti-US struggle and the historic victory on April 30, 1975 which led to the liberation of the south and national reunification. He highlighted the significant contributions made by the armed forces and people in Dong Nai to the country’s great victory.

He said that 30 years after the war, Dong Nai, which serves as the gate to Ho Chi Minh City, has emerged as a fast growing province. The province boasts more than 600 foreign-invested projects capitalised at US $7.4 billion operating in 23 industrial zones. The provincial economy has been growing at an annual rate of 12-13% over the past 20 years, while its gross domestic product has risen by 15 times compared to 1976, with industry accounting for 57%, services, 27 percent, and agriculture, 17%.

Dong Nai is striving to become a key industrial province of the southern economic region by 2010, he said.

Binh Duong was a hot fighting sport in the heroic struggle against the US aggressors. The Saigon puppet regime and the US aggressors moved well-trained troops and modern weapons to Binh Duong and selected it as a base to launch operations in adjacent areas.

Despite the heavy damages caused by the enemy, Binh Duong has made great efforts in socio-economic development, becoming one of the key economic zones of the country.

Meanwhile, many military commands and organisations also held activities to mark the liberation of the south and national reunification and to promote the glorious tradition created by different generations.
