Ha Noi-based ATV beat VTV 5-4 on
penalties after drawing 1-1 in the final of the Budweiser
6v6 International Cup qualifiers at the University of Water
Resources yesterday.
The ATV team, which was known as
Horison, walked away with US$300 after finishing on top at
the northern region qualifiers in Hanoi, which had 32 teams
playing in a round robin tournament with eight groups.
Both ATV and VTV will advance to
the final round at Ho Chi Minh City's Thong Nhat Stadium
next month.
According to organisers, this
year's tournament drew 128 teams that battled it out in the
qualifiers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Khanh Hoa
Province.
The last eight teams will play
in the finals at Thong Nhat Stadium on April 4.
The winners will represent
Vietnam at the world championships at Loftus Versfield
Stadium, which will host the World Cup's opening and final
matches in South Africa this July.
The World Six-a-side
Championship will be played in two five-minute halves on a
43m-by-26m pitch.
Last year, Vietnam finished
second after losing to Argentina on penalties at Manchester
United's Old Trafford Stadium – the Theatre of Dreams.
The qualifiers were organised by
the Vietnam Football Federation and Budweiser. (VNS)
