Vietnam lose 1 – 0 to Indonesia in friendly

Nhan Dan Online – A twelfth minute penalty in a friendly against Indonesia dashed Henrique Calisto's hopes in his first match as the coach of the Vietnamese national team. Vietnam eventually going down 1 – 0 to hosts Indonesia.

Without captain Minh Phuong who had stomach trouble, the Portuguese coach had to give up his usual 4141 formation and to return his unfavoured 442.

Although there was not the most powerful line-up, Vietnam players appeared very confident and launched a series of attacks from the beginning of the match.

But after 12 minutes, Vietnam suffered a penalty after an Indonesian striker stumbled over defender Phuoc Tu in the goal area.

Forward Bambang scored the spot kick, opened the scoring.

After that, Vietnam had some good chances to equalise, but strikers Viet Thang and Ngoc Thanh failed to turn their shots into goals.

In the second half, Quang Hai, Thanh Luong, Xuan Hop and Duc Duong came on, but failed to have much impact.
