An
art performance and an ethnic costume show presented by Hoa
people in the southern province of Soc Trang as part of main
activities to mark the Ooc Om Boc festival, concluded on
November 1.
The four-day performance attracted the participation of over
500 amateur artists and people of Hoa ethnic group in the
province, competing in folk songs, traditional music,
dancing and costume shows.
This year’s Ooc Om Boc festival, which will run until
November 2, also includes a photo exhibition on Vietnam’s
ethnic groups, and sports, food and fine arts performances.
A traditional Ghe Ngo (long boat) race starting from October
26 to November 2 is another highlight of the festival,
capturing the interest of every spectator. Ten female and 30
male teams are participating in the boat race.
Ooc Om Boc means ‘eating new young rice’. The Ooc Om Boc
Festival is a Moon God worshipping ceremony of the Khmer
ethnic people which is organised on the 15th day of lunar
10th month, after the main harvest of the year. (VNA) |
