Bat Trang pottery
Nhan Dan – Vietnam’s trade
village exhibition fair and traditional craft festival 2009
under the theme ‘Traditional craft – identity and
development’ was opened by the Ministries of Culture,
Sports and Tourism and Agriculture and Rural Development,
the People’s Committee of Thua Thien-Hue province and the
Central Farmers’ Association of Vietnam in Hue city on June
10.
The festival saw the
participation of artisans from the ancient village of Phuoc
Tich which was recognised as the national historical
site for hundred years of pottery making. Furthermore,
there are 150 artisans coming from 15 traditional craft
villages of pottery, lacquer, painted enamel throughout the
country like: Chu Dau (Hai Duong), Bat Trang (Hanoi), Phu
Lang (Bac Ninh), Bau Truc (Ninh Thuan), Go Sanh (Binh Dinh),
Chau O (Quang Ngai) and so on. Famous antiques collectors
from Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Tuy
Hoa also broad age-old unique and
precious antiques like porcelains, lacquer and painted
enamel to the festival.
For the first time, such
precious antiques are displayed at the exhibitions as : ‘A
Story of the treasure from the bottom of the river’; ‘The
country’s long journey’; ‘Porcelain collection and painted
enamel collection’; ‘Royal Court’s antiques collection’ and
so on. Many activities to honour craft village
artisans are held along the Huong river so that they can
perform their works of art and have exchanges with visitors.
Along with the displays
concerning special topics such as ‘Vietnam bamboo cultural
space’, the seminar on ‘Craft and traditional craft village,
potentiality and hindrance for development’ is also held.
Moreover, a discussion on capabilities of designing
handicraft samples in order to evaluate in depth the
potentiality, actual situation and prospect of craft and
traditional craft villages is also scheduled.
On the sideline of the festival,
a series of activities are organised at the Thuong Bac park
from June 10 – 14 such as: a meeting for visually-impaired
children from Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City under the
theme ‘Light in the dark’; traditional dress (Ao dai)
performance, artistic kite flying and performance on folk
arts from the country’s three regions.
